"Bugasan" project thrives in Carcar

CEBU, Philippines - The provincial government’s “Bugasan sa Kababayen-an” is doing well and at the same time benefiting various women’s groups in Carcar City.

“I’m so proud of them,” Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said.

The “Bugasan” is a program designed to elevate the living conditions of the women in the province by giving them an opportunity to start a small-scale enterprise.

In this program, ten sacks of NFA rice are given as seed capital to an accredited organization to start a business and sustain it.

Genesa Lagaras, president of “Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI),” said the provincial government has helped them a lot especially the women’s group in the city by establishing the program.

Gov. Garcia along with Rep. Pablo John “PJ” Garcia, former Danao City vice mayor Boboy Durano, provincial board members Julian Daan and Serie Restauro, first district congressman-aspirant Samsam Gullas, Carcar City Nicepuro Apura, and other local officials recently attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new store of “Bugasan sa Kababayen-an” in the Carcar City public market.

“Tungod ani nga programa, nahatagan og oportunidad ang mga kababayen-an to prove na kung sila kasaligan ug tagaan lang og means of livelihood, mahimo gyud na nila nga palambuon,” Gov. Garcia said.

Gov. Garcia said with the success of the project in Carcar, this program is now being replicated throughout the province and even in the other provinces in the country.

Mayor Apura said the city government supports the federation by shouldering the payment for its license as well as the traveling expenses for seminars and trainings of officers.

It also offers free pick-up and delivery of rice to barangays. (FREEMAN)
