Village chief apologizes to city demolition team

- Flor Z. Perolina - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The barangay captain who challenged the Mandaue City demolition team to a duel last week has apologized for what he had done last week.

Barangay Mantuyong captain Antonio Maquilan, who was one of the owners of the 15 illegal pigpens demolished last week said he was carried away by his emotions when he saw the demolition team tearing down his pigpen.

Maquilan said he will appeal to the city government for a moratorium on the payments of hogs that are now being moved to the holding area of the city abattoir in barangay Labogon.

Hog owners are charged P4 per pig for a day’s stay at the holding pen at the city abattoir.

He said he will ask the city to make the city abattoir accessible by jeepneys.

City legal officer Giovanni Tiannero said the requests will be taken into consideration and will be endorsed to the city council  for legislative action. – (FREEMAN)
