PB member Ouano worries about logjams in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines - The attention of the Department of Public Works and Highways-7 has been called in connection with the traffic buildup in Mandaue City due to ongoing infrastructure projects.

Sixth district Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano, in his letter addressed to DPWH-7 regional director Ador Canlas, has appealed for a review and readjustment of the time of execution of these projects so as not to inconvenience commuters and motorists.

DPWH-7 is upgrading an almost a kilometer-long portion of UN Avenue starting from the foot of the Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge and installing culverts for a drainage system in Subangdaku, both in Mandaue City.

The road upgrading and the drainage project are expected to be finished this month and December of this year, respectively, said DPWH-7 spokesperson Marie Nillama.

Ouano also said that for the past two weeks, he has been receiving complaints from the motorists (not only from the sixth district but other residents from the northern part of the province) about logjams that last for more than one hour in these areas.

Ouano suggested that DPWH begin work at around 9:00 p.m. when traffic is light.

“Your office would have the power and responsibility to adjust the execution of these projects. Please kindly consider these simple inputs to address

Ouano said there is no issue or debate on these laudable and indispensable infrastructure projects for the growing Mandaue City but DPWH-7 should find ways to solve the issue on traffic. – (FREEMAN)
