DA-7 turns over equipment to Mandaue public market

CEBU, Philippines -The Department of Agriculture-7 yesterday turned over P1 million worth of food terminal equipment to the New Mandaue City public market as part of its program called “Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program.”

Turned over by DA-7 assistant regional director Eduardo Alama to Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes were a cold storage van worth P850,000, grinder, meat slicer, bone slicer, and a cutter all worth P150,000.

With the equipment, Cortes said the facility will encourage farmers and fishermen to bring their products to Mandaue City.

Vendors whose products are not consumed can have their products stored in the van and will only be charged a minimal of P1.50 per kilo.

The storage van has a compartment for meat products and another separate compartment for vegetables.

Market administrator Mosulini Soliva said he will invite farmers from Mantalongon to bring their farm products to Mandaue City.

He is confident the new set up will attract farmers the new public market being spacious and has a wide parking space, and well-secured as the Mandaue City Police Office is just a few meters away.

Starting next month, the Bagsakan Center, which is just a stone throw away from the new market, will be opened.

Here, farmers can display their farm products from 6 p.m. up until dawn.  (FREEMAN)
