Biaño to run for vice mayor in Mandaue

- Flor Z. Perolina - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Former Mandaue City councilor Victor Biaño made it clear yesterday that he will run for vice mayor of Mandaue City next year.

He said the reason behind this decision is that Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede allegedly has done nothing for the city.

He said he might run under One Cebu Party or with the Lakas Party.

He remembers being at the Governor’s Office when Gov. Gwen Garcia announced her interest in running for senator.

At that time, he said Garcia was amenable to his idea of running for vice mayor in Mandaue and had even told him she might find someone to run for mayor as his running mate.

But so far the governor has not found anyone who will run for mayor.

Biaño also wishes to see someone run against Mayor Jonas Cortes, who will seek re-election.

“I hope somebody will run against Jonas as it will not look good for the city if he has no opponent. I pray someone will run against him para dunay choice ang mga tawo,” Biaño said.

He said if the report that Mandaue City College president Paulus Cañete will run for mayor in the city is true, he is all for it.

Cortes should not underestimate Cañete because he is very much qualified to be mayor, he said.

He said Cañete has three doctorates and has shown to be a good manager of the Mandaue City College in Tipolo.

Despite the alleged unfair treatment by the incumbent mayor, the school and students are still there, he said.

Biaño said his slate for councilor will include former city councilor Emiliano Rosal, Allan Borbajo, ex-PBA star Elmer “Boy” Cabahug, lawyer Nilo Seno, Romulo Echavez, a brgy. Ibabao   councilor.

He said he will also try to convince former city councilor Procopio Villanueva to join his slate.  (FREEMAN)
