Jonas gets nod from LP

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has received his certification of nomination and acceptance from the Liberal Party.

City administrator James Abadia said the certificate was signed by LP chairman and DILG Secretary Mar Roxas last September 14, which the mayor received last September 18.

With the certificate came a document that designates Cortes as the LP chairman in the city and given authority to nominate and issue certificates of nomination.

This is the second time Cortes will run for mayor of the city under LP.

Cortes was forced to move to LP from the Lakas Party in 2010 after Lakas broke the rule that says the equity of the incumbent should prevail.

Lakas issued a certification of nomination to former sixth district representative Nerissa Soon Ruiz who ran for mayor against him in the 2010 elections.

Aside from Cortes, the present members of the city council will join his slate in the 2013 elections under the Liberal Party. — (FREEMAN)
