CEBU, Philippines - The head of the demolition unit of the Mandaue City government fired a warning shot in the air when he was mobbed by a group of illegal vendors while he and his men were clearing the sidewalks of B. Ceniza Street near the premises of the old public market in barangay Centro last Tuesday evening.
Ret. P C/Insp. Edmundo Maboloc and his men tried to confiscate the wares being sold by a certain Magdalena Baclohan for selling these along the street.
Earlier, the city council approved an ordinance to seeking the clearing of the areas near the old public market of Illegal vendors.
However, just as the team was about to seize the wares that Baclohan was selling, she resisted by hitting Maboloc with pail and other wares she was selling.
As it happened, other illegal vendors sympathized with Baclohan and assaulted Maboloc.
Maboloc, in a bid to diffuse the tension, fired a warning shot in the air using the firearm issued to him by the city government.
The city legal office is set to file a case of direct assault case against Baclohan today. (FREEMAN)
