Radaza admits barangay chiefs' helplessness to collect garbage

- Jose P. Sollano - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines – Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza yesterday said some barangay captains allied with her administration have failed to solve the garbage collection problems in their barangays.

In yesterday’s press conference, Radaza presented records gathered from the Lapu-Lapu City Solid Waste Management Office which showed the number of barangays that had been issued citation tickets for uncollected garbage.

From January to August this year, barangay Pusok led other erring barangays with 104 citations.

Barangay Basak came in second with 95 citation tickets.

Earlier, Radaza questioned the filing of a case in the Office of the Visayas Ombudsman against 29 barangay captains in the city minus barangay Basak.

The city mayor said barangay Basak also failed to do its job, but why did businessman Efrain Pelaez fail to include the barangay in his complaint?

“Mo-admit ko nga daghan pa gayud kaayo nga barangay ang wala gyud makatuman sa ilang gimbuhaton, pero dili lang unta gamiton kini sa pagpamolitika,” Radaza said.

Radaza said she always reminds barangay captains to do their job.

She said the city government will only assist them through the Solid Waste Management Office.  – THE FREEMAN
