CEBU, Philippines – A 33-year-old man was arrested by police Monday evening in barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City for alleged extortion.
Joselito Omandam, a resident of Sector 6 in barangay Pagsabungan, was arrested after one Florante Baybayon complained to the police.
Basak police station chief P Sr./Insp. Wilson Abot told police about the loss of his wallet which contained important documents and received text messages from someone who had claimed he had it and that Baybayon can have it back for P1,500.
He sought police assistance when the man allegedly became greedy and wanted to be paid more and had allegedly threatened Baybayon with harm, Abot said.
An entrapment was hatched and Abot said Baybayon and Omandam agreed to meet at a roadside in Pagsabungan.
As soon as Baybayon handed over the marked money, the police pounced on Omandam.
Seized from Omandam were .38 caliber pistol and five bullets.
He is being detained at the Basak police station. – THE FREEMAN
