Talisay asks informal settlers to move out

- Garry B. Lao - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Owners of illegally built structures and stalls that stand near the Talisay City Sports Complex and the Talisay City College in barangay Poblacion have been asked to voluntarily demolish their homes.

Mayor Socrates Fernandez has signed a demolition order but the settlers have been given a week to clear the area.

About 15 illegally built stalls stand on top of a drainage system.

City administrator Ritchel Bacaltos said the city government has every right to evict people who occupy government-owned properties.

Bacaltos, however, pointed out that the illegal occupants have until next week to clear the area otherwise the city will be compelled to remove it.  – THE FREEMAN
