Talisay to apply new coat of paint on old town hall
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government realized its folly after Capitol drew its attention to the color pink applied on the old town hall building that was constructed in the 1920s and declared a heritage site.
City administrator Ritchel Bacaltos yesterday said the city has acknowledged its mistakes and will apply the color ivory over the pink and orange colors as suggested by the heritage council.
The building, which is located in barangay Poblacion, turned pink when the Talisay City Community College and the Department of Education occupied it.
“We will correct and repaint the building,” Bacaltos said, adding that Capitol consultant Jojo Bersales, the chairman of the committee on sites, relics and structures of the Cebu Provincial Tourism Heritage Council, criticized the choice of colors for the building.
The Gabaldon-type school building was built in the late 1920s.
“We accepted the correction and we thank him (Jojo Bersales) for calling our attention,” Bacaltos said.
But Bacaltos said the fence around the old town hall will remain to protect the students of the college and the old Heroes Monument from criminals and vandals.
