If elected, Yayoy to improve village workers' benefits

- Garry B. Lao - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - If given a chance to be elected as Cebu’s first district representative in the mid-term elections, Cebu City Councilor Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba said he would focus on improving the benefits of barangay workers all over Cebu.

Alcoseba, who will end his term as Cebu City councilor next year, announced his intention to run for the Cebu Provincial Board under the Liberal Party.

In an interview with reporters, Alcoseba, whose family hails from Carcar City, said his experience as a Cebu City councilor can help him in his bid for the board member position.

Alcoseba said it is high time to increase the honorarium of barangay health workers, tanods, and other barangay workers in the different barangays in Cebu province.

“Some of these barangay workers are earning less than P500 a month yet they continue to serve their communities daily,” Alcoseba said, adding that barangay workers are considered as the backbone of various barangay units.

Alcoseba added that with the Cebu provincial government’s financial capability, it can help in not only improving the condition of barangay workers but also with its senior citizens.  - THE FREEMAN
