CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City Police Office wants to dispose of artillery shells that have been kept at the grounds of the police headquarters for many years. Supt. James Goforth, chief of operations of MCPO, said the artillery shells are already very rusty and are barely recognizable. They were reportedly either recovered or turned over to the police by junkshop owners. One vintage bomb is reportedly stored at the Subangdaku Police Station.
Goforth said they plan to bring the vintage bombs to the scrap yard owned by the Ting Guan family in Barangay Looc where the other 385 vintage bombs recovered last Monday are still being kept for safekeeping.
Goforth said it is not unusual for Cebu to have plenty of vintage bombs because the province used to be occupied by the Japanese during World War II.
He said MCPO is just waiting for a final word from the Police Regional Office-7 on how to dispose of the bombs.
Looc Barangay Captain Raul Cabahug said the presence of the artillery shells in his barangay worries him and he wants them removed the soonest possible time.
The 385 artillery shells hauled from the Ting Guan property in Barangay Banilad that weighed a total of 4.7 tons have been transferred to a scrap yard in Barangay Looc.
