CEBU, Philippines - The newly-installed district director of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary in Central Visayas has promised to continue the plans and programs started by his predecessor.
Capt. Simplicio Gilig, who is also a founding officer of the Lapu-Lapu City Maritime Sports and Boat Operators Association (MSBOAT) said he has duties to fulfill as head of the PCGA auxiliary, and with the support and cooperation of the members, he is confident he would succeed in all his undertakings.
“Nakita nako nga bisan unsa ka dako sa gimbuhaton ug kalihukan basta ang tanan magtinabangay lang makuha gayud nato ang kalampusan,” Gilig said.
Gilig recalled the success of last month massive clean-up at the coastal area in barangay Maribago and San Vicente in Olango Island.
He expressed his gratitude to divers who spearheaded clean-ups in coastal areas.
Gilig said coastal tourism is the lifeline of the city of Lapu-Lapu, citing the need to keep the water in good quality.
Gilig, a successful businessman and a diver himself, is also an environmentalist.
