Number of Frasco's scholars up this year

CEBU, Philippines - The number of scholars of the “Duke Scholarship Program” of Liloan town Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco has increased by more than one hundred this year as compared to last year’s, The Freeman learned yesterday.

A press statement released from the Office of Mayor Frasco states that this school year 2012-2013, 448 scholars are presently enrolled in different colleges and universities in Cebu  City.

It has tripled since the beginning of the program back in 2008.

Mayor Frasco said the main trust of his administration is to provide quality education in both elementary and high school.

The municipal government has distributed school bags and school supplies and constructed more classrooms.

In line with this thrust, the “Duke Scholarship Program” was established by the municipal government to support poor but deserving students who graduate from high school but cannot afford to pursue a college education.

The municipal government has also allocated P2 million for the implementation of this program under Mayor Frasco’s administration.

The scholars under the “Duke Scholarship Program” are fourth year high school and college students that are enrolled in different schools and universities in the town and in Cebu  City.

Some of scholars are enrolled in accountancy, business administration, engineering, and other courses.

Under the program, the municipal government also includes a scholarship program with teachers as beneficiaries.

Those who have availed of the program are teachers are taking up Masters or advanced education programs.

The municipal government of Liloan also has allocated P500.000 for this scholarship.
