2 men beaten, arrested for attempt to steal motorcycle

CEBU, Philippines - Two men who took a motorcycle from a couple at gunpoint were arrested by the police after bystanders, upon hearing calls for help, caught them yesterday dawn in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Arrested after getting a beating from bystanders were Garry Morrey, 22, single, of Maslog, Danao City and Jeremerl Cane, 23, of Almendras Street, Lapu-Lapu City.

Couple Rudyard and Janet Gonzalez had just gotten off their motorcycle when two men approached them and announced a holdup.

The men mounted the motorcycle and then realized the key to it was with the couple who were shouting for help.

Just as the two men attempted to get the key from the couple, the bystanders came.

Morrey took out his gun and fired twice at the couple but missed.

Just then, a police patrol car arrived.

A loaded .45 caliber pistol, a cellular phone, and two sticks of marijuana were seized from the two men who are now detained at the Casuntingan police station.
