CEBU, Philippines - Barangays in Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Cebu and Talisay cities recently have received medical assistance intended for patients admitted at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center from Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and his sister Sen. Pia Cayetano.
Rey Martinez, chief of staff for the Visayas of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and who is also chairman of the Companero Cayetano Tavang Volunteers, confirmed the turn over of the assistance to barangay officials.
Both Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano signed a memorandum of agreement with the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center concerning indigent patients and the deposit of P3 million for their expenses.
The money comes from the Cayetanos’ Priority Development Assistance Fund.
Dr. Maamo, on the other hand, said as a practicing doctor and a former mayor of one of the towns of Leyte, he knows the problems that face patients.
According to Maamo, relatives of indigent patients turn to barangay, municipal, and city officials for financial assistance.
With the medical assistance given by Senators Cayetano, Maamo said it is a big help to the people especially in Cebu City. – THE FREEMAN
