CEBU, Philippines - Compostela town Mayor Joel Quiño delivered his State of the Town Address yesterday, Independence Day, enumerating his accomplishments after 100 days in office, announcing a 12-point agenda that his administration would carry out within this year, and, as an exclamation point to the speech, promising not to take a personal interest in the town’s coffers.

“Akong ipasabot kaninyo nga sama usab kaninyo, tawo lamang ako, mahimo usab masayop, mahimo usab og dili ako makahatag sa katagbawan sa tanang tawo nga akong gialagaran apan ang ako lamang ipaneguro kaninyo mao nga ako maningkamot sa tumang ka matinud-anon ug kini akong ikapasalig kaninyo nga dili ko gyud hilabtan ang salapi sa atong lungsod sa akong kaugalingong kaayuhan,” Quiño said.

Among his accomplishments include the repair and improvement of barangay roads as well as farm-to-market roads, the construction and repair of public buildings, the municipal hall building, public market, and the completion of D.M. Reynes Gym.

He said medical missions, through the courtesy of the Tzu Chi Foundation and the Office of Provincial Board Member Jude Durano-Sybico, were brought to barangays Estaca, Poblacion, and Dapdap, which benefited more than 4,000 indigent residents.

The mayor also mentioned the town’s P1.8 million in financial assistance to residents who seek treatment at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

He said the town had also secured medical assistance from Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, his sister Pia Cayetano, and fifth district Rep. Ramon “Red” Durano VI.

Quiño is equally proud of the opening of integrated elementary and high school classes and night high school in barangay Bagalnga, the installation of street lights at the national highway, the improvement of collection of garbage, and the implementation of the solid waste program.

Quiño said the town earned P18,366,909.28 during the first quarter of this year, and the funds available to the municipality totals P59.2 million.

He said he will use the money to finance different priority projects.

He also announced a 12-point agenda his administration would implement.

The agenda focuses on peace and order, health, food production, environmental program, livelihood and employment, infrastructure development, education, water development, housing services, tourism and cultural heritage development, social services and transparency, and participative governance.

Before he ended his speech, he thanked Vice Mayor Antonette Dangoy and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan for their support. (FREEMAN)
