Man claims partner died from eating "tulingan"

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A man yesterday claimed that his live-in partner had died from eating tulingan and sardines (tuloy) which were bought from a seller who sells fish along the road near their home in sitio Sampaguita in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.

Johnny Eroisa, 45, brought with him yesterday morning to the office of the Investigative and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) a sample of the food they ate a few days ago which caused the death of her live-in partner Russell Montejo, 26.

Eroisa alleged that at around 6 p.m. last Sunday he together with his six year old son Lenard bought one kilo of “tulingan” and half a kilo of “tuloy” from a certain “Onyot.”

He claimed all the fish were cooked in vinegar. He had some of the pickled fish only the following morning after warming it and warming the leftovers again for supper.

Last Tuesday, Rusell joined him at breakfast and partook in the eating of the left-over viand.

A few minutes later, Russell complained of stomach aches.

She asked that herbal ointment be applied on her abdomen but the pain persisted, he said.

He said she asked to a quack doctor in the neighborhood who in turn advised that Russell be taken to a doctor.

Eroisa said Russell was declared dead upon arrival at the Ignacio Cortes Hospital in barangay Centro, Mandaue City.

IDMB Deputy chief P/Insp. Ramil Morpos advised Eroisa to bring the food sample to the Bureau of Foods and Drugs (BFAD).                 The PNP Crime laboratory -7 will autopsy the body of Rusell Montejo.
