Fugitive's mother, cousin arrested
CEBU, Philippines - The police arrested the other night the mother and a cousin of an inmate who escaped from his jail escorts after his arraignment Tuesday.Siberina Andujar, 59, and her niece, Jenifer Cogay, 18, were caught in the act of aiding fugitive Ricky Andujar elude arrest.
Last Thursday dawn, Andujar who hid in the house of his aunt in barangay Bajac, Liloan town slipped from a dragnet.
P/Insp. Wilson Abot, who led last Wednesday evening a joint team composed of men from the Basak police station, Canduman police station, and the BJMP, said they proceeded to sitio Mansawa in barangay Binaliw, Cebu City after receiving information that Andujar went to a house there.
Abot said they checked every house they knew belonged to Andujar’s relatives.
Since the search proved futile, the team went to Andujar’s house.
As the police approached the house, they heard loud knocks.
Abot said they interpreted these as the signal to Andujar to run.
When interviewed, Andujar’s father denied his son had come home.
But the police saw and followed footprints leading towards a hill.
Twenty meters away, the police, using night vision binoculars, saw Andujar with three other persons.
When Andujar and his companions saw the police, they quickly went every which way, with Andujar’s mother and cousin running towards home.
“Nagtuo man dyud mi ug suspek maoy among nasundan,ngitngit man gud apan ang inahan man diay ug ig-agaw niyang baye busa silang duha maoy gidakop namo. Mu-deny pa dyud ang mama nga wa daw makauli iyang anak apan ang usang dinakpan mi angkon nga si Andujar dyud to,” Insp.Abot said.
Andujar’s mother and cousin are now detained at the Opao police station pending the filing of charges against them. (FREEMAN)
