Choreographer arrested, denies child abuse charge
CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested Tuesday a namesake of former GSIS president Winston Garcia at his residence in sitio Aroma in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City on the strength of an arrest warrant for alleged child abuse.
Garcia, 21, is a dance choreographer.
OIC Subangdaku police station chief P/Insp Ramil Morpos said Garcia had told him that his child abuse case stems from a complaint last year from one of his students who has claimed that Garcia physically harmed him.
But Garcia has denied the allegation.
He said he had just called the boy’s attention to a mistake.
He said he was called to the principal’s office after the boy’s parents lodged a complaint against him.
He thought the incident was already settled and he did not expect to be arrested.
The bail is set at P80,000 for his temporary liberty.
Garcia is now detained at the Subangdaku police station while waiting for his commitment order to a jail in San Carlos City. —(FREEMAN)
