CEBU, Philippines - Police recovered ten vintage bombs from a junkshop in barangay Opao, Mandaue City Tuesday.
The bombs are now in the custody of the Mandaue City Police Office and will be turned over to the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) of the Central Command.
P/Insp. Diosdado Malazarte, chief of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), said the bombs were the type used during the Second World War.
Malazarte said the bombs could still explode since no holes have been found which would indicate that powder had been removed.
He said it’s more likely the bombs were stored in a room rather than dug up.
He said PO3 Joy Grengia from station 5 in barangay Opao had informed his station about the bombs in a junkyard in barangay Opao.
The junkshop owner who found the bombs in his yard immediately informed the police.
He said he could no longer remember where the bombs came from. – (FREEMAN)
