Mandaue concludes deal with tow firm

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City legal officer Giovanni Tianero yesterday said the city has rescinded its contract with Jadewell Pay Parking System Corp.He said it would be illegal for the company to continue its towing operation and collection of fees in the city, the 60-day notice of rescission having lapsed last May 5.

Tianero said the city is also contemplating padlocking Jadewell’s office in barangay Ibabao for lack of a business permit.

“The contract is no longer binding and any act without any legal basis and authority from the city can now be considered as a “common crime,” Tianero said.

He said he will inform Mandaue City Police Office director P Sr./Supt. Noel Gillamac about the latest development.

Although it has its own towing truck, Tianero said the city can’t start just yet because of the lack of a place to impound vehicles.

For now, traffic enforcers will issue citation tickets while the city looks for a place to impound the vehicles.

Tianero said hiring the services of a different towing firm is out of the question for now because the city is enthusiastic about taking over the operation.

Earlier, city administrator James Abadia said the city will purchase one more towing truck as the newly bought truck cannot tow vehicles which has over a 20 gross tonnage. (FREEMAN)
