Capitol should talk to Cebu City on plans to manage bus terminal

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - If the province would like to manage the Cebu North Bus Terminal, it will have to deal with Cebu City, which is leasing the facility, and not with Mandaue City, which owns it.

The Capitol had earlier thought about taking over its management since most of the people who patronize the buses are north-bound anyway.

Mandaue City Councilor Elstone Dabon yesterday said the lease contract with Cebu City ends in 2020 yet. It manages the terminal through a cooperative.

The terminal was built during the incumbency of former mayor Alfredo “Pedong” Ouano, thanks to borrowed money from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which amounted to P25 million.

Mandaue isn’t enjoying yet the fruits of its labor since the P2 million it gets from Cebu City as its annual share goes to JICA as payment for its loan, Dabon said.  (FREEMAN)
