CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City health office is opposed to the practice of performing circumcision outside of hospitals or medical clinics by non-medical persons.
So, the health office and the Philippine Air Force will continue to conduct free circumcision in the 10 more barangays in the city, after 20 had been served. Doctors expect about 3,000 boys all in all, or about 150 in every barangay, to avail of the free service.
The city has set aside a budget for the undertaking.
Boys are required to register in barangay halls to know when the circumcision will be performed.
It will continue until June, or a week before classes open.
City health officer Dr. Rodolfo Berame said the ideal age for boys to undergo circumcision is five years old.
He also said only midwives, nurses, and doctors will perform the operation. (FREEMAN)
