Mandaue to transfer illegal settlers out of danger zones
CEBU, Philippines - Urban poor settlers who reside in danger zones in Mandaue City will soon be evicted.
Housing and Homesite Regulation Officer Tonypet Juanico yesterday said families verified to be living in danger zones can now relocate to the 6.5-hectare site in barangay Paknaan in Mandaue City but can choose to accept financial aid and live somewhere else.
Juanico and the city’s demolition team are now putting up markers in easement zones to prevent hindrances once the demolitions starts.
He said the demolition will start once the markers are in place.
The plan was to demolish the houses last year but was delayed to await the school break.
“Apan sa pagkakaron, wa nay rason nga dili sila ma-demolish kay summer na gud unya naa pa dyapon sila diha,” Juanico said.
Right now, 50 families are already at the relocation site, which could accommodate 1,225 families, Juanico said. - THE FREEMAN
