Mandaue ready to take over tow firm's functions

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government is prepared to operate its own towing services once the “60 days of notice to rescind contract” that it has issued to Jadewell Pay Parking Systems Corporation lapses.

City legal officer Giovanni Tianero yesterday said Jadewell has only until May 5 to serve the city before its services is terminated.

After that, the Traffic Enforcement And Management (TEAM) will take over the operations.

He said a tow truck, recently bought by the city, is being readied. The city is set to buy another one soon.

“The city is now ready. There will be no vacuum. Ready to take over na dyud ta. Ang ato lang ron is to respect the provision of the contract, mo- comply lang sa ta 60-day notice to rescind the contract,” Tianero said.

Tianero said Jadewell must not have been familiar with the provisions stated in the MOA it had signed with the city.

He said one of the provisions of the contract was that company personnel cannot tow vehicles without the presence of a traffic enforcer and that the personnel must have accreditation from the city council before they can work.

He said such provisions had been defied by Jadewel.

The Commission on Audit has also found reasons to end the contract.

The MOA was entered into by former mayor Thadeo Ouano and Jadewell in 2003. - THE FREEMAN
