Consolacion to put into effect 2-month dry run for truck ban
CEBU, Philippines - The 60-day dry run for a truck ban at the national highway and a provincial road in barangay Tayud in Consolacion town will start next week.
The Consolacion municipal council approved last week a resolution authorizing the Consolacion Traffic Enforcement Services to conduct a 60-day dry run.
The national highway traverses barangay Poblacion Oriental, the boundary between Consolacion town and Mandaue City and barangay Pitogo, and the boundary between Consolacion and Liloan town.
The provincial road crosses Cebu North Coastal Road in barangay road of barangay Tayud, the boundary between barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City and barangay Tayud, and the boundary between Consolacion and Liloan town.
The truck ban will start from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The no parking zone will also be implemented in these places to decongest the flow of traffic.
Municipal Councilor Julius Alegado authored the resolution.
The truck ban is in support to the simultaneous truck bans being implemented by Liloan town, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City.
Alegado said the town is left with no option but to also implement a truck ban to avoid being turned into a parking area for trucks affected by the truck ban in Mandaue City.
The truck ban covers all trucks weighing 4,500 kilograms and above.
However, trucks carrying perishable goods are exempted from the ban.
Exemption from the ban should be obtained from the traffic department in Consolacion.
According to Councilor Alegado, a written report about the outcome of the dry run will be submitted to the municipal council, which will be used as basis for a proposal that will seek an implementation of a truck ban. (FREEMAN)
