Sitio in Mandaue boasts homemade fire hydrants

CEBU, Philippines - A volunteer fire brigade in sitio Tambisan in barangay Ibabao-Estancia in Mandaue City has placed homemade fire hydrants in the sitio.

A total of 160 families live in the sitio, and being in the interior portion of the barangay, the 50-member brigade has placed in three strategic locations 50 drums filled with water, a 100-meter fire hose, nozzle, a fire extinguisher, and an axe.

Yesterday the hydrants were tested under the supervision of barangay captain Carmelino del Mar Jr.

A hydrant operates by connecting a hose to a fire truck stationed in the main road and the other end of the hose is attached to the main reservoir located in the interior portion, which is connected to the three empty fire hydrants.  (FREEMAN)
