CEBU, Philippines - Blasted, or dynamited, fish are still being sold in Lapu-Lapu City.
Task Force Kalikasan confirmed this after a surprise inspection of a satellite market in barangay Babag.
With the task force was SPO1 Jomar Ybañez who is also a fish examiner said three boxes containing “tamban” or “tuloy” were found in the market but were not seized for humanitarian reasons.
The owner of the boxes of fish, Susan Ando of Cordova town, said she bought the fish from the Pasil market and had no idea the boxes contained blasted fish. She also said she cannot tell blasted fish from legally caught ones.
The task force warned that violators would be punished next time.
R.A 8550 or the anti-illegal fishing law states that blasted fish will be seized while the person in possession of it will be dealt accordingly.
Kalikasan will visit all markets in Lapu-Lapu City.
