Mandaue can't yet void contract with tow firm

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City has yet to find a wide holding area to be able to run its own towing service.

City administrator James Abadia said the city cannot yet rescind the contract with Jadewell Pay Parking Systems, although it has already bought a tow truck.

Abadia said that aside from the lack of a wide holding area, the city also needs a secured area for impounded vehicles to avoid being sued if these are stolen.

The city has started using the newly bought tow truck, and the Traffic Enforcement and Management (TEAM) has impounded 20 vehicles at its temporary holding cell at the vacant space at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Center.

Abadia said the city will be scouting for additional funds to buy additional trucks for towing.

He said the truck the city has bought weighs only 3 tons and is incapable of towing big vehicles.

Jadewell’s contract with the city will expire in 2015 yet but the city wants to rescind the contract with it due to complaints from motorists about abusive personnel.  (FREEMAN)
