Factory donates sewing machines to 4th district

CEBU, Philippines - True to its corporate social responsibility, MetroWear Incorporated, a garment factory based at the Mactan Cebu Export Processing Zone in Lapu-Lapu City donated 35 high-speed sewing machine to the fourth district of Cebu intended for out-of-school youths.

The sewing machines would give the youths the chance to be trained and give them the opportunity to be employed in the company.

During the signing of the deed of donation the other day, fourth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon said the sewing machines are housed at the Kapitan Martin Salimbangon Training Center at Curva, Medellin where target beneficiaries in the district can be trained in high-speed sewing.

“Nakahatag kini ug employment opportunities sa atong katawhan didto kay mao ang atong tumong ug tinguha nga kahatagan gyud ug trabahao ang atong mga constituents, “ Salimbangon said.

Metrowear has seven factories and three support facilities at MEPZ I and employing more than 16,000 employees.

Its has been operating in Cebu for the past 15 years. Its main office is situated in Taipei, Taiwan.

Under the deed of donation, Metrowear provides the machines while the local government unit-beneficiary provides the training and accommodation of the trainors.

It said the donated machines will become instruments for the fourth district’s constituents to attain self-reliance for a better quality of life.

“Before we only lend them the machines. But we have seen how efficient and how it helped the constituents there, so we decided to donate the sewing machines,” Vickie Rose Orpilla, head of the Human Resource and Compliance Management of Metrowear said.

Orpilla said her company has also donated 25 high-speed sewing machines to Bogo City and 30 machines to the town of Dalaguete.

The signing of the deed of donation was also witnessed by Medellin town Mayor Ricardo Ramirez, Vice Mayor Alfonso Lim, several barangay captains and other officials of Metrowear. (FREEMAN)
