CEBU, Philippines - Garbage trucks that pass through Consolacion town on the way to a private landfill in barangay Polog are now covered following complaints from residents who object to the unpleasant smell the trucks leave behind.
After hearing condemnation of residents, Mayor Teresa Alegado quickly rectified the mistake by meeting representatives of Asian EnergySystems Corporation, barangay officials, and residents.
Alegado said all the problems has been already corrected from the side of the barangays, municipalities, and cities that dump garbage in the sanitary landfill.
Trucks are now required to properly cover garbage they carry to make sure residents aren’t bothered anymore, Alegado said.
Officials of the Asian EnergySystems Corporation assured residents in Consolacion it would comply with all the requirements set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The sanitary landfill in Consolacion accepts a fee for garbage coming from Cebu and Mandaue cities and neighboring towns and private companies. (FREEMAN)
