Mandaue apprehends six Cebu City garbage trucks
CEBU, Philippines - The Solid Waste Enforcement Team of Mandaue City apprehended six garbage trucks two of which are owned by the Cebu City government while four others are owned by barangays of Cebu City.
Placido Jerusalem, the chief of the Solid Waste Enforcement team, said the garbage trucks were apprehended near Uratex in barangay Jagobiao Friday morning and issued citation tickets which indicate the fine of P500 for each truck for violation of a provision in city’s anti littering or spillage ordinance.
“Nag-awas-awas ilang mga basura, bisan ug naa pa na sila’y sanitation permit ug permit to transport apan kon masakpan nga nag-awas sa dan ilang mga basura ato dyud nang dakopon,” Jerusalem said.
He said other garbage trucks are allowed to pass even without the necessary permits because these did not spill any garbage into the streets.
He also said he has given all garbage trucks of Cebu City one week to secure permits to transport before these are allowed to pass through major thoroughfares in the city on their way to a private landfill in Consolacion town.
As of now, what garbage truck drivers show are trip tickets from the Cebu City government.
Jerusalem said most of these garbage trucks ask for permission from him to be allowed to pass after the road in barangay Pit-os on the way to the landfill is in bad shape.
“Gawas nga naguba ang dan batohon sad daw sila inig labay didto busa nanghangyo,” Jerusalem said.
He said the apprehended garbage trucks have 72 hours to pay their citation tickets or else they will charge the Cebu City government and their barangays for violating the R.A 9003 or the Solid Waste Management act. (FREEMAN)
