Fire victims told to vacate school
CEBU, Philippines - The administration of the Jagobiao National High School has urged fire victims that reside in the school to look for another place to stay.
Barangay captain Ma. Editha Montessa in an interview yesterday said the families have to go this Sunday because the school is scheduled to be evaluated by the Department of Education next week.
Montessa said the Eversley Child Sanitarium and hospital will accommodate the families in its vacant lot for the time being.
The fire victims however are hesitant to transfer because they intend to rebuild their houses in the lot they previously were leasing prior to the fire last Monday.
Montessa said she forbids them to rebuild their houses because the area is below street level and prone to flooding and should be developed before they can return to it.
She plans to subdivide the property first and build a road and drainage system before she would let anybody go back.
Here, the most common illness is dengue fever.
Montessa will turn to Mayor Jonas Cortes for assistance. (FREEMAN)
