Biliran officials impressed by Pagsabungan's waste system

CEBU, Philippines - Officials of Biliran province are impressed by the way the Material Recovery Facility in barangay Pagsabungan in Mandaue City is being run and expressed their intention to introduce this in the different barangays in their province.

In a talk with The Freeman, Montejo said that they should study the success of Pagsabungan Barangay Captain Andres Suson in operating a barangay Material Recovery Facility.

Biliran Vice Governor Manuel Montejo said he had been briefed by barangay captain Andres Suson and learned how the garbage problem is addressed.

Montejo said he will ask barangay captains in Biliran province to visit Pagsabungan and learn directly from Suson.

Aside from Pagsabungan, Montejo said the barangay officials will visit other barangays in the country that have been successful with the Material Recovery Facility.

“Kinahanglan gayud nga mangandam na kitang daan sa pagpangita og sulbad sa problema kabahin sa basura,” Montejo said.

He said the lack of funds is almost always the number one reason that prevents barangays, municipalities, and cities to put up a good garbage disposal system.

Suson’s success with the MRF in his barangay had earned him awards from Mandaue City for two consecutive years.
