Road altercation lands man in prison

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A heated traffic altercation brought a 22-year-old man to jail yesterday afternoon.

The man, identified as John David Javier of Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City, landed in jail after he allegedly smashed the windshield of the car of a German national whom he accused of bumping his car first.

The incident happened along UN Avenue in Barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City.

PO1 Ariel Gingko of the Centro Police Station said the altercation between Javier and Peter Ralph Kirst, a temporary resident of Villa Amores, Lapu-Lapu City began when Kirst allegedly bumped Javier’s Chevrolet Captiva three times along UN Avenue.

“Sud gawas, sud gawas morag gusto ba mo-overtake ang German national apan di niya mabuhat,” Gingko said.

Javier accused Kirst of bumping his car intentionally, which was denied by the German national. The German reportedly just handed a P1,000 bill to Javier and hurriedly sped off, but this reportedly irked Javier and prompted him to chase the foreigner until Plaridel Street in Barangay Alang-alang. There, another argument ensued between the two.

Javier then smashed the windshield of Kirst’s car with a stone which also hit and wounded the foreigner’s abdomen.

At the police station, Kirst explained that the reason why he sped off was because he was looking for a police station to settle the matter in. He said Javier had misunderstood him.

Javier was arrested for malicious mischief and physical injury.
