Mandaue marks Rizal Day

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - To commemorate the 115th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, officials of the Mandaue City Schools Division and the Mandaue city government held a Mass and floral offering yesterday morning at the Rizal stadium located at the city hall grounds.

The Eucharistic Mass was held at the National Shrine of St. Joseph followed by a program and a salute to the national flag by Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, city councilor Demetrio “Jun” Cortes, schools division Superintendent Virginia Zapanta, and department heads.

City Councilor Cortes Jr. delivered a message in behalf of Mayor Jonas Cortes who failed to attend yesterday’s activities for being sick.

The mayor’s message urged students and employees to follow Rizal’s examples.

Students from different schools rendered songs, dances, and recited poems.  (FREEMAN)
