Police in Talisay seize, destroy firecrackers

-

CEBU, Philippines - Police seized P30,000 worth of firecrackers and soaked these in water in front of the Talisay City Police Station in barangay Poblacion Tuesday morning.

Supt. Eddie Recamara, TCPS chief, said the firecrackers were confiscated last December 24, which were being displayed under the flyover in barangay Tabunok.

Recamara said the police have already reminded firecracker vendors to sell at the designated area in barangay Lagtang, otherwise these pyrotechnics will be confiscated and the sellers fined.

The police chief said this policy has to be implemented to prevent accidents.

Recamara said the fireworks destroyed was owned by one person but distributed to a number of consignees.

The police chief believes that the owner had no permit from the Firearms, Explosives, Security Agency, Guards Supervision (FESAGS).

Recamara has warned all firecracker vendors to stay at the designated place as the police is closely monitoring the selling of all pyrotechnics in the city.

Republic Act 7183 or an Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic Devises, states that “any person who manufactures, sells, distributes or uses firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in violation of this Act shall be punished by a fine of not less than P20,000 or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both fined and imprisoned, and his license and business permit canceled.” – (FREEMAN)
