Rep. Mendoza allocates P5 million for scholars
CEBU, Philippines - Trade Union Congress of the Philippines Rep. Raymond Mendoza has allocated P5 million in support to its scholarship program for students in Cebu.
TUCP Partylist Consultant Luis Manuel Corral said the money will be taken from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Rep. Mendoza.
Corral said TUCP Partylist is helping the establishment of the ALU-TUCP Workers College Foundation, Inc. in Cebu City.
He said Rep. Mendoza believes that one way of helping those seeking jobs is to provide them the foundation through proper training.
Corral said Rep. Mendoza and Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) director general Joel Villanueva agreed to help each other in the implementation of the program.
Members of the Associated Labor Unions-Trade Unions Congress of the Philippines and their dependents leaving in Cebu who cannot afford to pursue a college education can now avail of the scholarship program.
The Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) has assured its support to the establishment of an ALU-TUCP Workers College Foundation, Inc.
TESDA provincial director Buenafe Sta. Rita has lauded TUCP Partylist for giving importance to technical education.
Sta. Rita said her office is willing to support the implementation of the project once the ALU-TUCP Workers College Foundation, Inc. properly registered.
She said registration is important for the foundation college to avail of TESDA’s program.
The foundation last month assessed applicants for training as call center agents as well as masseurs and masseuses.
Under TUCP’s expansion program, non-union members will be considered.
Graduates of these two short-term courses offered by the ALU-TUCP Workers College Foundation, Inc. are in demand here and abroad. (FREEMAN)
