Man kills wife, spares children

CEBU, Philippines - A woman was stabbed to death allegedly by his live-in partner inside her rented room at sitio Commonwealth, barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

Meshel Mangubat, a native of Dumaguete City but temporarily residing at sitio Commonwealth in barangay Ibo sustained stab wounds on her left neck and on the lower portion of her lower chest.

Initial investigation conducted by Crime Against Persons Desk Investigators PO2 Winson Ybanez disclosed that the woman was inside her rented room asleep with her two children when an unidentified person suddenly entered the room and attacked Mangubat.

Mangubat’s nine-year-old daughter told police that while they were asleep, she saw a man wearing a white t-shirt, short pants, and wearing a ball cap, enter the room and suddenly attacked her mother.

She further said the man got her mother’s wallet which was placed in a plastic container and hurriedly leave them unhurt.

Responding personnel from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation brought the woman to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital, but attending physician Dra. Evelyn Magno declared her dead on arrival.

After the killing, the alleged attacker, Vicente Vasquez, surrendered to Lapu-Lapu City Police with the assistance of police officers stationed in the place.

Vasquez allegedly admitted killing his wife because of a misunderstanding. – (FREEMAN)
