CEBU, Philippines - A 67-year-old caroler died after he was hit and ran over by a speeding prime mover on the National Highway of Barangay Tuyan, Naga City Tuesday evening.
The family of Tom Matis, of barangay Inoburan, almost failed to recognize him, police said.
Fernando Bernabe, 44, of barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando and driver of the prime mover bearing plate No. GXG-551 tried to elude arrest but the Toledo City police denied him the pleasure.
SPO2 Ian Quitayen, chief of the operation unit of the Naga City Police Station, said Matis allegedly crossed the road without looking.
Bernabe said he did not have the chance to avoid the man.
“Napisat gyud siya grabe pagkaligisa hasta ang internal organs gawas sad,” Quitayen said.
A witness who wrote down the plate number of the prime mover immediately called the Naga City police who then radioed the Toledo City police and arrested Bernabe about 1:00 a.m. yesterday.
