Mandaue to rescind contract with tow firm
CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government is set to finally rescind its contract with Jadewell Pay-parking Systems once the newly purchased tow trucks arrive.
Lawyer Jamaal Calipayan, the executive secretary of Mayor Jonas Cortes said the tow trucks are expected to arrive two weeks from now.
Notice of rescission was sent to Jadewell last August, which stated that the rescission would take effect 60 days after receipt of notice.
However, Calipayan said that since the tow trucks have not yet arrived yet, Jadewell’s continued operation is being tolerated so as not to disturb the city’s traffic situation.
But when the tow trucks arrive, Calipayan said the city will send the company the actual letter of rescission.
While Jadewell continues to operate, the city has again received a complaint against the towing company’s personnel.
Last week, a Jadewell employee allegedly pulled a taxi driver out of his vehicle and impounded the taxi for a violation.
The taxi driver couldn’t retrieve his vehicle because he couldn’t pay the fine. He tried to plead his case but since it fell allegedly on deaf ears he went to the city legal office.
Jadewell’s mistake was towing a vehicle without a traffic enforcer in attendance, Calipayan said.
Calipayan said it should be the complainants themselves who should take the company to court and not the city because the city has no jurisdiction over the company’s personnel.
