Talisay top cop warns against pyrotechnics

-

CEBU, Philippines - To prevent accidents, Talisay City Police Station chief Supt. Eddie Recamara has warned the public against using pyrotechnics, especially the improvised canon or “lantaka,” to celebrate Christmas Day and welcome New Year’s Day.

Recamara said six-year-old Yuri Menguito in barangay Tanke died last year from severe burns caused by his homemade canon which exploded in his face.

This canon is made from a PVC pipe, a bamboo stem, or empty

softdrink cans stuck together to form a long pipe.

The canon is fueled by denatured alcohol that when lighted could create a deafening blast.

“Dili lang unta sila mogamit og mga devices, for example, mga lantaka tungod kay nakahatag kini og risgo sa kinabuhi sa katawhan. Dili lang unta sila mogamit ana ug kining mga pabuto nga gidili sa balaod,” he said.

Recamara said a team will be roving entire city to ensure that the residents are following this warning. - THE FREEMAN
