Foundation launches anti-cervical cancer program in Mandaue
CEBU, Philippines - Former Bb. Pilipinas-Universe winner Abby Gaile Arenas, president of Braveheart Foundation, launched in Mandaue City yesterday the foundation’s anti-cervical cancer program.
The foundation’s advocacy is cervical cancer prevention.
Arenas, assisted by Sarah Cortes, the wife of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, performed the ceremonial anti-cervical cancer vaccination on a few city hall employees, who are among the more than 100 employees who could avail of free vaccinations from the foundation, which is in partnership with the medical company, Glaxo Smithline.
Dr. Belinda Pañares, president of the Phil-Obstetrics-Gynecology Society-7, was also at the launch.
The launch was also part of the one-day summit for anti-cervical cancer held at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Each vaccine could cost P2,500 each, which every woman needs at least three injections for anti-cervical cancer.
Mrs. Cortes expressed her gratitude to the foundation for picking city hall employees as its beneficiaries. She said some of her friends had died of cervical cancer.
Arenas said the good news is that cervical cancer can now be prevented. - THE FREEMAN
