Woman gypped

CEBU, Philippines - A 19-year-old woman was gypped Tuesday by two other women of her Blackberry cellular phone and P2,500 along M.C. Briones Street in barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City.

Meljoy Sollano, a resident of sitio Tambis in barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City told police she had just withdrawn money with the use of her ATM card and was on her way to the public market to get a ride home when two women asked her for help to find a multicab they could rent.

Sollano said she was at first hesitant to help but the two women were persuasive.

She said she was handed a bag which the women claimed was filled with money, and then asked that she give them her phone and the money she had just withdrawn as guarantee that she won’t run away with the bag while they looked for a multicab.

When she got tired of waiting for the women to return, she opened the bag and found not money but only pieces of paper.

Sollano kept crying while narrating what happened. - THE FREEMAN
