Paz wants teacher moved outside city

CEBU, Philippines - If Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza had her way, she would transfer to another school outside of the city a grade four teacher of the Mactan Air Base Elementary School who is accused of being responsible for the drowning of one of her students.

Radaza said cases involving teachers should properly be looked into and those involved should be given assignments outside the city.

"Grabe man gud kaayo ang mga pasangil mao nga angayan balhinon sa laing lugar kadtong adunay reklamo," said Mayor Radaza.

However, Radaza said she will respect the decision by the officials of the Department of Education.

The Lapu-Lapu City council has approved a resolution that requests City School Division Superintendent Eduardo Ompad to assign for the meantime teacher Marilou Sulabo of the Mactan Air Base Elementary School to the division office while the death of the grade 4 pupil is being investigated.

Obviously, the council's intention is to prevent Sulabo from influencing witnesses.

The 9-year-old pupil's parents blame Sulabo for their son's death.

As alleged, last October 5, Sulabo sent home Jason James Vidal and two classmates who reported to class without bringing with them excuse letters, they being absent the previous week.

The three boys, instead of going home, went swimming under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge where Vidal drowned.

Sulabo has denied the accusationas invited by the members of the city council she strongly denied the accusation blaming her of the death of the 9 year-old pupil. (FREEMAN)
