CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City has impounded at least 50 motorcycles from January to October this year.
PO3 Amelito Hornales of the Talisay City Traffic Division said most of these motorcycles are unregistered or have expired registration with the Land Transportation Office, while the rest were driven by unlicensed individuals, all apprehended at checkpoints.
Expired registration is fined P4,000, while for a license, a P1,500 penalty is imposed. Hornales said the penalty could be the plausible reason why most motorcycle owners refuse to renew their registration.
Some of these impounded vehicles are expected to deteriorate at the compound of the Talisay City Police Station in barangay Poblacion or under the Tabunok flyover as what happened to the other motorcycles seized in the past years, thanks to owners who can not either show the proper documents to show ownership or avoid the penalty or the impounding fee, which is computed daily.
