CEBU, Philippines - During the "open forum" portion of the "Barangayan" held at barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said the P100 million housing project in sitio Paradise in barangay Looc in Mandaue City will have city hall employees and teachers as beneficiaries.
Cortes said since he doubts the original beneficiaries of the P100 million housing project at Looc can afford to pay the monthly amortization of P3,000, the housing project would have city hall employees, employees of the national government who are based in the city, and public school teachers as beneficiaries.
The mayor said he has decided to do this because he has noticed that the city has been providing relocation sites and housing projects to the urban poor but has forgotten the needs of its employees and teachers who are also constituents of the city.
He said the National Housing Authority has given its go-signal to proceed with his plan.
The project, initiated by former Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano, was stopped during the administration of Mayor Jonas Cortes after he found out that it could only accommodate 205 out of the 600 beneficiaries who are mostly fishermen living in shanties near the seawaters of sitio Paradise in barangay Looc.
Cortes also doubts the beneficiaries could pay the P3,000 monthly amortization. - THE FREEMAN
