Construction worker admits killing guard
CEBU, Philippines - A construction worker has admitted to killing a 43-year-old security guard who was found dead on top a mobile crane at a construction site in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City with several hack wounds.
William Morandarte, who worked for Ropisa Security Agency had wounds on his neck, face, and head.
Police said Morandante's body was found by his fellow security guard Joel Pogoy, while making the rounds at the site.
Homicide chief P/Insp. Ramil Morpos took three workers to police headquarters for questioning and in the course of the interrogation, one of them admitted to having killed the guard.
Harazim Navarro, 20, of barangay Magdugo, Toledo City told police that he killed the guard for insulting and threatening to kill him.
Navarro said a colleague had earlier found P14,000 in a taxi cab and he got a share from it.
He said the guard got hold of the story and became sore for having been left out of the equation.
Last Friday evening, the guard banged the door, and Navarro asked, "Unsay problema, Tsip?
The guard answered, "Ikaw unsay problema nimo (You, what's your problem)?
Then he drew his service gun and told Navarro "Last na lang ka. Sa makauna lang," the guard allegedly said.
Navarro said since he couldn't sleep after the threat was made, he got up and took the bolo of one of his colleagues and went to the guard who was sleeping at this time. He struck him many times, he said.
Navarro is now detained at the Centro Police station pending the filing of charges against him. —
